Introduction to Counselling

This workshop will provide an opportunity for Career Development Practitioners to enhance their current counselling skills and gain improved outcomes when working with clients.

The program includes an introduction to basic counselling skills, theories and practices. It reviews a range of different counselling approaches and how to implement them.

Aims of the Day

The objectives of the workshop include:

  • Providing a solid grounding in basic counselling skills
  • Understanding different theories of change
  • Being introduced to different counselling approaches such as person centred, systems, cognitive behavioural, narrative therapy, strategic and solutions focused
  • Practice in implementing these skills
  • Reflecting on the role of the self in the counselling process

The format of the workshop involves large and small group discussion, case studies, role plays and individual reflection exercises. Course notes provided.

Support strategies for sole practitioners
